Inpatient Process

At Barlow Respiratory Hospital, one call is all it takes to initiate the admissions process. Referrals for all of Barlow's locations are processed through one centralized admitting department.

Qualified nurses in the admitting department will obtain the pertinent clinical and financial information necessary to process each referral. Barlow nurses are available to perform on-site clinical evaluations and meet with potential patients and families.  In addition, each patient's case is reviewed individually by a member of the Barlow medical staff.  As necessary, these physicians may be in contact with the patient's referring physician to assure continuity of care.

Barlow's Business Development staff can help evaluate each patient's financial options.  Barlow accepts private insurance, Medicare and Medi-Cal.  We work with a number of other health plans, including HMOs and PPOs.  If there is no current contract with a patient's plan, Barlow will do everything possible to arrange for a special contract.
